Well that's it for the Youth Section training for Summer 2024. I expect most of our wonderful kids are back at school now, catching up with friends and getting stuck in to their Studies.
Well Done to everyone this year - all of our young teams went out with good attitude, a sense of comradeship and were strong on encouragement and spirit. Enjoying the Game more than anything.
Our LCC World Cup was tremendously attended - the shock late exit of England gave little known Cricketing Nation Georgia a chance to play and some fierce cricketing battles were fought and won in Observatory Lane. Incredibly it all came down to a Bowl Off for the Cup - which was almost more exciting that the games themselves - with Three Teams taking turns to try and hit the stumps. With such talents on show it remained tied for some considerable time - finally a young boy stepped up to take his turn for South Africa, an U7 Sixer with immense promise, he hit the stumps comprehensively - Winning the Cup for South Africa! Congratulations to all and Thank You to everyone who took part, who helped and organised and donated goodies and salads and Thank You to everyone who gave so Generously in our Donations pot. Keep the Cup safe at home until Next Year and we will do it all again...
On Sunday our Men's 1st XI played Lisburn in the All Ireland T20 Cup Final held in Phoenix. We batted first and put up an impressive total of 192 - particular mention to TJ who put on 75 in just 30 balls! Pressure from us had it looking like we had it in the bag - but some amazing batting from a desperate Lisburn after 16 overs brought up a score of 192 - a tie! Super Over it was with Lisburn batting first and clinching it with an incredible 22 from their over. Our momentum gone. Huge Congratulations to our Men for what was surely a fantastic performance and is already an All Time Classic match. I'm sure it still hurts though.
Up in St Columba's with the Men's IIIs we weren't paying nearly enough attention to Sandy putting on 85 for us as we followed the 1st's match on youtube - our opposition quite puzzled by our lack of attention! Sorry Sandy!!
There are still a handful of matches to go in all sections, if we get them played. And don't forget the Taskmaster Event on Saturday 31st August from about 6/6:30pm I'm told. Ask Jenny Sparrow how you can sign up... And the Cricket Section Dinner on the 20th of September... Much Fundraising still to be done - please support the Cricket Section as a whole. Of course, simple donations through Pitchero welcome and appreciated.
Sending much love to Ronnie who has suddenly headed off for cancer treatment - wishing him all the very best for his treatment and recovery and looking forward to seeing him when he is back!
